Thank you for your interest in The New Masters: Women Artists of Northeast Ohio,  A Juried Art Exhibition. Please read and follow instructions carefully. Please read the Terms & Conditions. Print this prospectus for reference. No entries or images will be accepted after 11:59 PM, Saturday, January 6, 2018. Entries will only be accepted if entry forms, digital images and fees are received at the time of entry and by the deadline. Entry fees are non-refundable. The submission of entries/images does not guarantee that your work will be selected for this highly competitive juried exhibition.  Each artist may submit a maximum of three (3) artworks.
 


The Florence O'Donnell Wasmer Gallery will manage The New Masters: Women Artists of Northeast Ohio,  A Juried Art Exhibition using artcall.org, a highly secure, online, juried art show system. Personal information, entry fee payment, image uploads, jurying and artist notification will all take place within this robust web application. Entrants must have a valid email address.

 WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

The Florence O’Donnell Wasmer Gallery and Ursuline College are excited to host a stunning exhibition of diverse artistic disciplines along with a free opening reception and awards ceremony. In honor of Women's History Month in March, we’re intentionally showcasing the creative excellence of our talented women artists who live and work in the region. The New Masters: Women Artists of Northeast Ohio,  A Juried Art Exhibition is open only to emerging and professional women artists 18 years of age and older currently residing in the the 18 counties of Northeast Ohio including:

Ashland, Ashtabula, Columbiana, Cuyahoga, Erie, Geauga, Huron, Lake, Lorain, Mahoning, Medina, Portage, Richland, Stark, Summit, Trumbull, Tuscarawas, and Wayne, Ohio.
 
 
HOW TO SUBMIT
 
  • To submit art work, please create an account by clicking the green "Register" button at the top right of the screen.
  • Once you've created your account, please log in. Follow on-screen prompts to submit your art.


 

 
  • All works must be ORIGINAL, your own concept and creation. Artwork done under supervision or instruction in schools, classes or workshops is NOT ELIGIBLE. Copies of another artist's photos, drawings or paintings, etc. will NOT be accepted. Giclee reproduction prints or enhanced giclees of original art, or other forms of reproductions (except for signed & numbered limited editions of prints or photography) are not acceptable. Artwork previously exhibited at Wasmer Gallery or any other juried exhibitions in Northeast Ohio is ineligible.
  • Each artist may enter up to three (3) digital entries created within the last three (3) years.
  • Image minimum length on the longest side: 960 pixels and image maximum length on longest side: 4600 pixels.
  • Maximum file size images: 4mb
  • No CDs, DVDS or photographs will be accepted through the mail. Please do not email photos to the Gallery Director.
  • All digital images submitted must be of the highest quality, since all jurying and awards will occur online. Work not suitably photographed will be declined by the jury.
  • Images must be cropped to not include matting or frame, watermark and artist’s signature should not be visible.
  • Digital entries should have a filename that includes the artists last name as well as the entry number (#1 or #2).
  • Submissions are due online 11:59 PM SATURDAY, January 6, 2018 






 
PRESENTATION OF ACCEPTED WORK
 
  • All accepted artworks must arrive ready for installation. All 2D works must be properly matted, backed and under glass or plexi-glass and framed with hardware (screw eyes or D-rings) and wires securely attached to the back strong enough to hold the weight of the piece. (NO SAWTOOTH HANGERS, clips or plastic poster frames will be accepted.)  Works not wired will not be accepted. All art must be signed, dated and labelled.
  • Glass or plexi-glass must be clean (inside and out), unscratched.
  • Frames must be in good condition (no scratches or loose corners).
  • Mats must be clean and smoothly cut with no warping.
  • Paintings on canvas must be appropriately presented: framed, or painted on the outside edges of “museum wrapped” canvas with no visible staples.
  • All entries must either have a sale price or be marked not for sale (NFS) and include a price for insurance value.
  • The Gallery Director reserves the right to disqualify any work that is significantly different from the submitted image including: artworks that are a different size than stated on the application, artworks that do not show the quality represented by the submitted image, and artworks that arrive damaged.
  • Wasmer Gallery staff will use all reasonable care in handling works of art and will not be held responsible for artwork that is damaged due to improper mounting or framing, or is unstable.
  • Work not properly presented will not be exhibited.

Artists are responsible for all delivery and pick up during the stated days and times. No shipped works will be allowed or accepted. Late deliveries will not be accepted.  

 

 
MEDIA


SIZE AND WEIGHT LIMITATIONS

2D ARTWORK size (including mat and the frame) must be no larger than 48” X 36”
WORKS IN A SERIES: Will be judged as one work which must be no larger than 48” X36” combined and must not consist of any more than three (3) pieces. Please include the numbers in the series as part of the file name.
FREESTANDING SCULPTURE: must not exceed 40 pounds in weight.

  Painting: Oil, acrylic, water color, gouache, encaustic
Works on Paper: Drawing, printmaking, charcoal, chalk, pastels, pencil, wax, crayons, inks and collage.
Photography: Traditional, Digital prints, Computer Enhanced
Mixed Media: Two or more artistic media, that are combined in a single composition
Digital Media digitally or partially digitally generated art, including digital art that is embellished with paint or other techniques and photographs that are significantly altered using digital/computer techniques. Must be numbered individually.
Sculpture: Including wood, metal, stone, glass, mosaics, ceramics, fiber and recycled materials. All vessels and sculptures must be hand-built by artist.
Jewelry: Each piece of jewelry must be crafted from raw materials (metal, glass, stones, wire,) by the artist. No hobby kits.
Glass: All glass pieces must be hand blown or hand cut and fused by artist.
Fiber: Fine Art Weaving, Quilting, Soft Sculpture

 
JURYING PROCESS

The jurors will only review online entries. At no time will judges have access to artists’ personal information. Notification of the jury’s results will be sent in an email on Tuesday, January 23, 2018. Please make sure to provide a valid email address when registering.

1. Jurors receive anonymous online submissions consisting of images, media, dimensions, year completed, weight, where applicable
2. Jurors score images using a 1 to 5 star rating system for each submission based on this criteria: demonstration of artistic mastery, creative excellence and innovation and outstanding execution of chosen medium.

Decisions of the Jurors and the Wasmer Gallery with respect to originality and eligibility criteria are binding and final.

 
CASH AWARDS

There are $2,800 in cash awards. Award winners will be announced and receive prizes during the reception. Award winners will be posted on the Ursuline College website.

Best in Show - $1,000 Purchase Award
1st Prize- Award of Excellence  - $750
2nd Prize - Award of Distinction -  $500
3rd Prize - Award of Merit - $250
3 Honorable Mentions - $100 each

Prize winners will be asked to complete a W9 form to receive prizes.

 
OUR DISTINGUISHED JURORS
 

Mary Gray, Director, Ohio Arts Council’s Riffe Gallery
 

Riffe Gallery Director Mary Gray has been employed by the Ohio Arts Council since 1993. During her tenure, Gray has collaborated with scores of Ohio, regional and international artists, curators and art institutions in the presentation or production of over 150 exhibitions of varying themes and mediums
Gray has juried numerous shows for various museums, galleries and organizations across the state and in the region, and has served as moderator and panel facilitator for OAC and community panel meetings and workshops. She has curated an Otterbein University Faculty exhibition in 2015.

Gray graduated from the University of Michigan in 1983. She currently serves on the City of Columbus Art Commission, and as chair of the Committee for Art Acquisitions for the Commission on the Thomas J. Moyer Judicial Center, Supreme Court of Ohio. Gray is a member of The Ohio State University’s Town and Gown Advisory Committee and on the steering committee of the Central Ohio Visual Arts Consortium.

Nikki Woods, Director, Reinberger Gallery, Cleveland Institute of Art
 
Nikki Woods is the Director of the Reinberger Gallery of the Cleveland Institute of Art. Working previously as the Reinberger Gallery's Project and Visiting Artist Coordinator from 2013- to the Summer of 2017, she has overseen the production of over 40 exhibitions, and over 70 Visiting Artist lectures. Nikki is also a studio artist that is currently represented by Hedge Gallery in Cleveland, Ohio. Her work has been exhibited in regional exhibitions across Northeast Ohio, most recently in her solo exhibition Regrets Only at Hedge Gallery. Her paintings are in several private and public collections including the Progressive Art Collection and the Cleveland Art Association, and were featured in the 2016 film The Charnel House.

Alenka Banco, Executive Director, Cleveland Arts Prize
 

Alenka Banco, veteran arts administrator and entrepreneur, was selected to be the organization's new Executive Director in 2014. Banco had served on the Arts Prize Board since 2007.

DELIVERY OF ACCEPTED WORKS

Saturday, February 3rd from 10AM to 3 PM

Florence O'Donnell Wasmer Gallery at Urusline College adjacent to the Fritzsche Building.
  • Any special requirements for hanging must be discussed with the Gallery Director in advance of delivery.
  • Artists or their representatives are responsible for the delivery and pick up of artwork to and from the exhibit. No shipping to the gallery is allowed or offered. If artwork is not delivered on the designated days and times, it will not be included in the exhibition.
  • Late entries will not be accepted
  • Accepted work may not be removed from the exhibition for any reason before the close of the show on Friday, March 23rd, 2018 at 5 PM.

INSURANCE

The Florence O’Donnell Wasmer Gallery does insure all accepted works of art on display. Artists are encouraged to insure their own works, as well. 

 
SALES AND COMMISSIONS

 
Work on exhibit does not have to be for sale except for the Purchase prize winner. Wasmer Gallery will handle ALL sales transactions and a commission of 20% will be deducted. Gallery does not collect sales tax. The artist(s) will be paid by check by Ursuline College within two (2) weeks of the sale. All purchases must be paid in full by the closing of the show.

Purchasers of artwork may pick up sold works at the Florence O’Donnell Wasmer Gallery after the exhibition ends, between 10 AM and 3 PM on Saturday, March 24, 2018.

Under no circumstances can work be withdrawn before the end of the show due to a sale, another exhibit or any other reason.

 
REPRODUCTION OF IMAGES AND PROMOTION

Copyright and all other rights to the artwork will remain with the artist. Wasmer Gallery and Ursuline College reserves the right to post accepted artists’ images for marketing, publications, and promotional purposes. These include, but are not limited to, ads, articles, marketing materials, press releases, event presentations, slide shows and videos, brochures, post cards, catalogs, posters, event mailers, and for use on the Ursuline College website and the gallery’s social media networks. Artist will be credited.
